The Health Benefits of a Spa Pedicure!

It’s not uncommon that women have a fetish with fancy stilettos. The fashion God’s have women sporting sky-high heels, and women worldwide are bombarded with images of Kim Kardashian or Victoria Beckham teetering around in insane six inch-plus “killer heels.” The long term impacts of towering around in exotic footwear can wreak permanent damage on your feet and ankles, including — but not limited to — bunions, corns and calluses.

With all the exertion on our feet it is important to pamper your southern extremities with regular spa pedicures. In addition to having beautiful toes, there are many physical health benefits to regular spa pedicures.

Removal of Dead Skin

During a spa pedicure, the esthetician spends a significant amount of time buffing calluses and dead skin off of the bottom of the feet. Having calluses can cause an imbalance in how you distribute weight on your feet, leading to painful and tired feet after standing all day.

Massage for Improved Health

Most spa pedicures include a foot massage, usually with a focus on reflexology or acupressure.  When the points in the feet are stimulated, it produces healing effects in other areas of the body- particularly the organs.  Massage is relaxing and besides- who doesn’t love to have their feet massaged?

Protection against Funguses and Bacteria

The feet have the perfect conditions to harbor bacteria- warm, moist, and confined to socks and shoes.  During a pedicure, the cuticles and under the nails will be cleaned out- inhibiting the growth of microorganisms.
